DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Support the daily planning and implementation of activities of the HFMO as directed by the HFM.
  • Perform assigned duties as a Deputy Fire Marshal (DFM) for the Hanford Site on behalf of the HFM.
  • Assist individual Hanford projects with development and identification of fire protection related requirements and criteria.
  • Produce technical evaluations or proposals for risk-based reduction of the overall number of fire protection systems on the Hanford Site as directed by the HFM.
  • Review and approve project documentation, including approval of design, equipment, materials, and operating procedures related to fire protection.
  • Assist Hanford Engineering in the preparation and/or peer checking of fire protection related Facility Modification Package (FMP) design drawings and documentation.
  • Interface with building and contractor FPEs and perform routine interpretation of fire protection related Codes and Standards with the follow-on approval of the HFM.
  • Support other Engineering tasks such as generation, review, and approval of various studies and technical documents related to Hanford Site fire protection systems and planned system upgrades.
  • Support any of the various duties that need to be fulfilled through the HFMO organization as directed by the HFM.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Be a graduate of an accredited university or college with a Bachelor of Science in an engineering or related technical field.
  • Have completed not less than four years of practice indicative of growth in fire protection engineering competency and achievement, three years of which shall have been in responsible charge of fire protection engineering design.
  • Be a Fire Protection Engineer holding Professional Member Grade in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers.
  • Be a registered Professional Engineer in the Fire Protection discipline.
  • Have a minimum of 20 years of experience in the implementation and application of DOE Fire Protection Program criteria.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Be a graduate of an accredited university with a Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering (MSFPE).
  • Be, or be capable, of becoming qualified as a Deputy Fire Marshal on the Hanford Site within 30 days of date of subcontract award.
  • Be familiar with the application of current programmatic fire protection requirements at the Hanford Site.
  • Be knowledgeable in the consistent application of DOE Fire Protection Program criteria with DOE nuclear and industrial safety requirements.
  • Be experienced in the design, installation and testing of fire protection water supplies and fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA Codes and Standards and DOE Fire Protection Program requirements.
